The Nyhavn wall lamp drawn by Homann and Kjær perfectly embodies the philosophy of Louis Poulsen, centered on the quality of lighting: conical shade that ensures a comfortable downwards light ; the shade Inside is painted white for a uniform light distribution; the rings prevent the formation of lines on the wall while slightly reflecting the light to illuminate the lamp itself.

The Nyhavn wall lamp won a prize in a competition organised by Louis Poulsen. Prior to the competition, Alfred Homann and Ole V. Kjær had just five days to produce their sketches and develop their concept. Here's how Alfred Homann explains the idea behind the wall lamp: "It was important that the size of the luminaire was smaller and less conspicuous than the luminaires already on the market at the time.

For this reason, familiar, classic shapes were chosen. The light emanating from the luminaire is characterised by the conical shade, which directs it downwards. The small rings between the rounded top and the conical shade create a guiding light.

The rings have been dimensioned both in height and width: 1. to avoid the formation of light lines on vertical surfaces, 2. to illuminate each other and 3. to direct a small amount of light onto the upper part of the conical shade. To direct a small amount of light onto the top of the conical shade. If the proportions or the position of the light source were changed even slightly, the whole idea would fall apart!
