The Bubi HK20 lamp published by Carl Hansen & Søn is an excellent example of the sculptural and playful idiom of Henning Koppel, who designed it in 1972, inspired by his grandson's summer hat.

The Bubi lamp provides glare-free lighting and can be used as a pendant or placed on its side as a table or floor lamp.

The lamp shade has an organic teardrop shape, with an opaline acrylic diffuser mounted on a chrome-plated or brass-plated steel body.

Trained as a sculptor, Koppel took an artistic approach to his creations. Unlike many of his contemporary colleagues in the Danish modern movement, Koppel placed more importance on the idiom of design than on its functionality, and his curved line is recognizable in all his work, whether silverware, jewelry, cutlery, furniture or lamps.

Henning Koppel

Danish sculptor and designer Henning Koppel (1918-1981) is considered one of the most important Danish designers of all time. Koppel is best known for his work with silver, but he also worked with other materials such as porcelain, granite, watercolor, steel and glass. Koppel had an elegant and precise sense of proportion. He always managed to find the ideal balance, whatever the material, creating timeless, enduring works.
