Mezzaluna Floor Lamp DCW Éditions – Bruno Gecchelin, 1975

The Mezzaluna floor lamp was designed in 1975 by the Italian designer Bruno Gecchelin. The idea was to provide a powerful floor lamp, which could replace a pendant light as basic lighting in a room, thanks to the then innovative technology of halogen lighting.

To ensure this function, the Mezzaluna floor lamp was equipped with a dimmer, a pivoting head to direct the lumens and a height-adjustable foot to adapt to the shape of the room. The design, both simple and obvious, did the rest: the Mezzalina floor lamp was a huge success, before leaving the market because of its energy-consuming technology.

The floor lamp is reborn today thanks to the artistic director of DCW Éditions, Frédéric Winkler, who contacted Bruno Gecchelin via his son, Lorenzo, also a designer, to adapt it to LED technology. Enthusiastic, the Gecchelins, father and son, collaborated to give a second life to the “Demi-Lune” floor lamp.

The result is perfect: the lighting power is remarkable: up to 6000 lumens, enough to illuminate an entire room.

To the original black and white have been added red, yellow and carbon blue hues inspired by the iconic Lampe Gras.
