DCW Éditions, Luminaires Design Français

The Munari suspension from DCW éditions is a tribute to the painter-designer Bruno Munari (1907-1998), one of Italy's leading exponents of Op' Art.

Poetic inventor of Machines Inutiles and Livres Illisibles, graphic designer at Campari, designer of the “chair for short visits”, Bruno Munari was also the creator of numerous early-learning and construction games, presented and sold in cardboard boxes and book-boxes, with illustrated instruction booklets.

Now icons of educational design, these Prelibri and other MC1 boxes inspired German designer Lutz Pankow and DCW Éditions to package and deliver the Munari lighting system, a kind of cosmic Spirograph satelliteized by planet-lights set on a conductive support structure.

This set of luminous atoms can be assembled by following the assembly instructions contained in the flat cardboard box, obviously referring to those of Munari's games. Hence the name, like a winking tribute.

Lutz Pankow

For Lutz Pankow, an industrial designer born in Lisbon in 1968 and raised in South America, his childhood spent alongside an aeronautical technician father served as an ignition point. Trained by Alberto Meda and Roger Tallon, living solo in Hamburg since 2006 and collaborating with several major German and Italian publishers, he has made his own the axiom that well-designed technical objects elicit natural beauty. Munari is a case in point, conceived as a scientific game to shape a graphic suspension evoking a magnetic vortex emitting powerful lights but light as dreams. Munari marks Lutz Pankow's first collaboration

with DCWéditions.
