Mogens Koch

Architect and professor at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts Mogens Koch (1898-1992) made a name for himself as a furniture designer, responsible for such well-known classics as his modular shelving system (1928) and the folding chair (designed in 1933, produced from 1959).

Mogens Koch was employed by Kaare Klint until 1934, when he opened his own design studio. In his design office, the tasks were many and varied: furniture, new buildings, typefaces, silverware and textiles. The architect played an active role in the idealistic development work aimed at producing better, cheaper furniture for FDB's customers. So, although Mogens Koch's furniture fetches high prices at auction today, many pieces were designed for practical use and efficient production.

Among his most popular creations are the beautiful, sturdy shelf boxes. Designed in the 1940s, they are appreciated worldwide for their simplicity and countless combination possibilities. This is truly a piece of furniture that survives generation after generation.
