Authentic, useful, sustainable products. Designed to last.
The company takes pride in its first workshop, based on traditional craftsmanship and modern industrial production. It was originally founded as Fredericia Stolefabrik (Fredericia Chair Factory) in the town of the same name. Fredericia quickly became known for its high-quality furniture in a variety of traditional styles.
In 1955, visionary entrepreneur Andreas Graversen integrated the heritage of high-quality furniture with modernist ideals, working closely with Børge Mogensen, Fredericia's first interior designer. Mogensen's intuitive understanding of materials and keen sense of proportion resulted in a range of iconic pieces, still celebrated today by collectors, museums, architects and designers around the world.
Recent developments
With the acquisition of Erik Jørgensen Møbelfabrik in 2020, Fredericia has expanded its design archive with a range of classics, including several iconic sofas, bringing together two brands with similar values and approaches. The continuation of local production in Svendborg demonstrates the company's commitment to preserving and strengthening Danish furniture craftsmanship. Today, Fredericia is still owned by the Graversen family, who continue to introduce pioneering designs to bridge the gap between the historical heritage of design and the new contemporary culture.
Design collaborations
Since the work of Børge Mogensen, Fredericia has continued to evolve, keeping up with the times. Over the years, the Graversen family has expanded the circle of designers collaborating with Fredericia, from Ditzel and Wegner to contemporary names such as Barber Osgerby, Jasper Morrison, Maria Bruun, Keiji Takeuchi and Cecilie Manz, each contributing to the renewal and reinterpretation of the brand's design ethos. Inspired by the creative power of lasting relationships, Fredericia continues to view collaborations with designers as partnerships based on deep mutual trust, creating a creative culture characterised by design integrity, artistic expression, materials expertise and industry knowledge.
Local production
Local production facilities are of vital importance to Fredericia, which is proud to continue a history of local expertise and unwavering quality. The company's name, Fredericia, comes from the fact that it was founded in the town of Fredericia in 1911. Local production facilities for certain models still exist today in Fredericia and Svendborg. A team of dedicated and skilled professionals supports the company's commitment to local production. Their expertise and passion are the driving forces that enable Fredericia to maintain high standards of quality and sustainability.
