In the furniture typology, it is undoubtedly the armchair that is most closely linked to pleasure: that of the user, who settles in to enjoy the present moment, as well as that of the designer, who frees himself from the utilitarian constraints of tables, chairs or sideboards. This status allows the designer armchair to concentrate the greatest creativity, but also the greatest luxury, since it often takes only one or two to furnish a living room.

So it's hardly surprising that Scandinavian design is so rich in exceptional armchairs, "pieces" that we dream of treating ourselves to, icons with spectacular forms, such as Arne Jacobsen's famous Egg, Alvar Aalto's Tank, Finn Juhl's Pelican, Hans Wegner's Flag Halyard Chair, Børge Mogensen's Spanish Chair - and so many other masterpieces that we'd all like to be able to bring home with us.

These Scandinavian pieces of furniture, which left their mark on the history of design, have a long line of descendants, from the famous Eames Lounge by the Americans Charles and Ray Eames, which takes up the principle of molded plywood developed by Alvar Aalto and Arne Jacobsen, to contemporary works that are openly inspired by them.
