The IC collection, with its minimalist art deco feel, features lampshades made of spheres of blown glass delicately set on slender metal frames with sharp angles.
Michael Anastassiades was inspired by a juggling show in which he was fascinated by the dexterity of the juggler. Fantasy and imbalance echo the geometric rigour and quality of Flos finishes.
Anastassiades, a Cypriot expatriate living in London, was intrigued by the code system used by the English police in their reports, and wanted to poke fun at it by hijacking the initials IC, which are usually used to define the types of people stopped.
The IC collection can be used both indoors and outdoors, with its floor lamp and Outdoor wall lamp. The poetry of the spherical opal glass diffuser blends in perfectly with a wide range of exteriors, both classic and contemporary. The harmony and graphic purity of the IC Outdoor lamps also emanate from the play of balance between the lampshade, reminiscent of a moon globe or lantern, and the thin metal rod that supports it.
Michael Anastassiades
Michael Anastassiades joined his design agency in London in 1994. The Cypriot-born designer studied industrial design and engineering at the Royal College of Arts and Imperial College London. Its lamps, mirrors and other products range between industrial design, sculpture and decorative arts. Deceptively simple, his works are meticulously done and inspired by his studies of civil engineering and industrial design.
Anastassiades is particularly famous for its lighting fixtures, which represent 80% of the projects entrusted to its agency. Sparkling surfaces mingle with simple geometric shapes such as tubes, oblong and spherical shapes, to articulate architectural spaces. The designer has often chosen to use reflective materials such as glass and bronze that float independently and interact with the surrounding space.
