La Plus Belle Philippe Starck, 2019

La Plus Belle has been designed by the famous French designer Philippe Starck for the Italian brand Flos in 2019. Its look, simple in appearance, is enhanced by noble materials and subtle lighting on the entire outline of the mirror.

La Plus Belle has a frame made of an aluminum alloy giving very high quality colours when it is anodized. No less than 560 LEDs are integrated in this frame. They are covered with an opaline silicone ribbon to ensure a soft, glare-free light. This light source is dimmable from 10 to 100% thanks to its DALI remote control system, but can also be activated by an optical sensor located at the top of the mirror with a simple gesture of the finger. Associated with 4 frame finishes – copper, gold, bronze and natural aluminum – it gives a soft and refined radiance.

La Plus Belle mirror is hosting in its frame an extra-clear glass whose particularity is that it does not distort the colours. The rendering is therefore very faithful to reality, and of exemplary purity. It is protected by a security film for more solidity.

La Plus Belle mirror is powered by a wall-mounted power supply or a cable with plug. It will find its place in various environments, as well classic, modern or industrial, in a room, a living room and why not an hallway.

"Imagine the witch asking her mirror: '' Mirror, tell me who is the most beautiful.'' In the dark, it does not work. In the dark, nothing exists, not even questions. Flos lit the light around the mirror and Snow White appeared.'' Philippe Starck

La Plus Belle is designed to provide the best possible light. Special LEDS are hidden beneath the optical silicone diffuser, assembled in a very frequent mode to increase the uniformity of the diffusion and provide a unique performance thanks to the exceptional combination of a chromatic rendering index (CRI) of 95 plus a reds stability indicator of over 90 (R9>90). Furthermore, the light from La Plus Belle is pleasant and soft (2700K) as well as manageable by the dimmer optical switch with a sensor integrated in the mirror.

“Subversive, ethical, ecological, political, humorous... this is how I see my duty as a designer.”

Philippe Starck was born in Paris in 1949. He graduated from the École Missim de Camondo in 1967 and founded his first design firm in 1968.

In 1982, Philippe was commissioned by the then-president of France, Francois Mitterrand, to design the interior space for the private apartments in the Elysée Palace. Following that incredible achievement, he designed the famous Café Costes, cementing his position in the design world.

Philippe also designed the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris and the control tower at Bordeaux airport.

Philippe believes that objects should “good” before being beautiful. The designer also believes in the concept of “democratic design,” meaning that quality objects should be available at lower prices so that more people can enjoy the best. He considers it his duty to share his ethical and subversive vision of a fairer world. The designer has created a wide range of objects from furniture to mail order homes, motorbikes, mega-yachts, outdoor furniture, interiors, floor lamps, and he has even developed artistic direction for space-travel projects.

FLOS favorites include a wide assortment of table and floor lamps by Philippe Starck: Ara, Archimoon K, Guns Table, Guns Lounge, K Tribe, Romeo, Rosy Angelis, Superarchimoon.
