Originally designed in 1965 for furniture manufacturer Holger Christiansen, the V11 armchair has become one of Wikkelsø's most successful creations, generating demand worldwide. It can be found everywhere from the office of the President of Japan to the palace of the King of Saudi Arabia, and has maintained an unwavering appeal among collectors and design enthusiasts in the ten years since its launch.
The V11 chair is a testament to Illum Wikkelsø's resolutely modern, avant-garde style, but it's only when you sit in it that its exceptional craftsmanship and dedication to physical comfort and flexibility become immediately and irresistibly evident.
The success of the V11 chair is due in no small part to its build quality and distinctive design. The trapezoidal body rests on four tapering solid wood legs, in the shape of an inverted pyramid that echoes the angular contours of the armrests and backrest. This gives it a clearly defined, resolutely modernist silhouette, while retaining the look of a classic lounge chair.
A gifted cabinetmaker, Wikkelsø often created furniture with a highly complex construction, and the V11 armchair is no exception. Every element had to be handcrafted and, due to the unusual shape of the chair's body, the upholstery fastener had to be placed visibly at the top rather than concealed at the bottom. Giving it a seamless piped edge therefore requires the utmost upholstery skills, as any imperfections would be clearly exposed.
The wooden frame and legs are made of FSC®-certified solid oak or walnut (FSC®-C176589). The seat features a spring system supporting four removable feather-filled cushions, ensuring comfort on all sides. It's a chair you can sink into and stay in for hours. The V11 pouf's unique cushion can be easily removed for cleaning.

Illum Wikkelsø
Danish furniture designer Illum Wikkelsø (1919–1999) believed that furniture should be built to last, to indulge the body and to please the eye. With his clear design aesthetic and deep understanding of materials, he was one of the key protagonists in making Danish style an international phenomenon.Wikkelsø worked with clean lines, but he also had a strong sense of organic expression and was deeply inspired by nature – especially the Danish landscape. His profound understanding of form was coupled with a deep commitment to exemplary levels of functionality and ergonomics.Although Wikkelsø was in many ways in tune with the design aesthetic of his time, he had both the courage and ability to develop his own innovative style which was often expressive and surprising, but always focused on sublime craftsmanship and attention to detail.
