Beam Hook Big Game
Beam Hook Big Game

The traditional American Shaker coat rack with a shelf is reinterpreted here by the design trio Big-Game, who bring two historical materials together to create the sturdy and durable coat rack Beam. The metal bar is not just a beam that you can slide the wooden hooks on, but also a shelf with an edge that keeps smaller items in place above the hooks.

Big-Game is a design studio based in Lausanne, Switzerland. It was founded in 2004 by Grégoire Jeanmonod (b. 1978), Elric Petit (b. 1978) and Augustin Scott de Martinville (b. 1980), who are Swiss, Belgian and French respectively. Jeanmonod and Scott de Martinville are both graduates of ECAL, in Lausanne, Switzerland, while Petit graduated from La Cambre, in Brussels, Belgium.

This trio of designers somehow combine a relaxed South European approach with a type of Flemish functionality, and this has brought them a number of international design awards. They have a preference for simple, functional objects and are comfortable working across a range of product design briefs, both large and small. They all currently teach at ECAL and the energy and kind of refection this brings can be seen in the positivity of their work. For HAY, they have created the Beam, Sunday Cutlery and Laundry Basket.Â
