The Doo-Wop Pendant was produced in the 1950s by Louis Poulsen in close collaboration with the Danish Navy to equip its ships. For many years, the Navy suspension lamp, as it was known at the time, was widely used by the navy to equip various facilities such as offices and canteens because of its simplicity and the quality of its lighting. It wasn't until the early 1980s that Poulsen took it out of the catalogue.Â
In recent years, many examples have come back on the market through auction rooms and second-hand dealers, and Louis Poulsen has been much in demand to bring it back into production. The new version is very faithful to the old one, but new colours have been created to bring it up to date. The lampshade is still handmade. The brass version is a technical tour de force, as it is made from a single plate.
