The Louis Poulsen Tomoshi lamp is a small, portable Japanese lamp that can be used as a pendant or table lamp. The technology used makes it extremely efficient and long-lasting.

The lamp takes its name from the Japanese word for light. In the words of its designer, Oki Sato, β€œTomoshi allows light to be freely placed, hung and worn elsewhere, evoking a sense of nostalgia and familiarity, while bringing freshness to our daily lives.”

The design combines a clean, minimalist aesthetic with soft curves and subtle details.Β

Oki Sato - Nendo design studio

Oki Sato - Nendo design studio

Designer Oki Sato was born in Toronto, Canada, in 1977. He founded his design studio - Nendo - in 2002. Nendo means β€œclay” in Japanese - or, more specifically, clay for modelling like play dough. A unique material that facilitates creative modeling. As Oki Sato explains, β€œThe name is appropriate for a studio that has to develop design solutions for a multitude of very different customers.”

Oki Sato doesn't see design like many iconic designers, who have focused on the mantra, β€œform follows function”. He also places importance on the history of the product and its design.

His style is minimalist, but contains small signs and details that immediately awaken the senses. He uses soft, friendly shapes that make his creations comfortable at first glance.
