The Wabisabi rug collection celebrates the beauty of imperfection. Each rug is the result of an artisanal weaving process, where experimentation gives way to the beauties of chance.
By skilfully adjusting warp and weft, Nani Marquina creates textures and visual rhythms that intertwine to form an imperfect yet exquisite wavy pattern.
These subtle irregularities add character and depth to each rug, inviting the viewer to appreciate the beauty of the irregular.
To further accentuate the effect, Nani Marquina systematically uses two contrasting colors.
Traditional Japanese arts, such as Hagi pottery, Ikebana (flower arranging), gardens, the Japanese tea ceremony and poetry (such as haiku), captivate those who appreciate beauty. These arts convey the essence of wabisabi: the acceptance and contemplation of imperfection, constant flux (the incomplete) and the impermanence of things.

Nani Marquina
True to her roots, Nani Marquina launched her brand in 1987, a time when contemporary rugs didn't exist in Spain.
After studying industrial design at Barcelona's Massana Escuela and building on the success of her first bespoke textile creations, Nani launched nanimarquina, a brand dedicated to the design, creation and distribution of carpets and textile products for the home, based on values such as observation, innovation and enthusiasm, with the aim of using traditional craftsmanship and techniques to create contemporary pieces.
In 1993, Nani Marquina embarked on a bold venture: it moved factories to northern India. The integration of craftsmanship and tradition as a new design concept marked a clear difference, consolidating the brand.
Over the years, the brand has won numerous awards including the National Design Award and the Premi Cambra un Empresarial la Gestió (Chamber Award for Design Management) in 2005, as well as several nominations for the Príncipe Felipe Company Excellence Award. Nani Marquina was also recently awarded the Manhattan Chamber of Commerce's International Women's Entrepreneurial Challenge, a personal achievement that led to her being named FIDEM's 2007 Woman Entrepreneur of the Year. She has served as president of ADP (professional design association) and Red (Reunión Empresas de Diseño). As of 2014, Nani Marquina is President of FAD, Foment de les Arts i Disseny, in Barcelona.
