Tabouret de bar Pole Simon Legald, 2023

Designed with simplicity and quality in mind, Normann Copenhagen's new Pole bar stool features a distinctive, minimalist look. Pole's design is full of character and devoid of superfluous details, with an emphasis on high-quality, durable materials and a simple, uncluttered aesthetic. Nonetheless, Pole is an exceptional bar chair. A circular plate made from solid pine rests on an unconventional base of lacquered tubular steel. It is topped by a single, smaller steel tube arranged in a cross, a functional and decorative element designed to serve as a footrest.

"Creating a design with simple yet original modelling is always the biggest challenge in a design process. With Pole, I think we've succeeded in creating a solid piece of furniture, made from quality, durable materials, that offers a very recognizable look," explains designer Simon Legald.

Overall, the Pole Barstool chair's design is both simple and full of character, with contrasting geometric elements and subtle yet functional details. Pole is available in two different heights, 65 or 75 cm, and in a variety of color combinations.

Simon Legald

Simon Legald graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 2012. He has worked on the development of numerous products from small to large scale. Legald's designs are the result of an exchange between craft and industry. In his work, he emphasizes the structure of the product, which becomes intrinsic to the design.

"Honesty is what makes a product intelligible and defines its functionality. If you understand the product, then there's no need for explanations. The very purpose of my designs is to be bought and used. So they have to meet functional needs as well as psychological and aesthetic ones. For me, simplicity is what describes the true identity of objects. In my designs, I try not to add superfluous details. All this gives the products a simple, honest expression."
