Fields Rug Lena Bergström, 2016

Lena Bergström continued to work with the same chiné effect she used in her Björk rugs, and this time too, she found her inspiration in nature; endless fields that spread like a collage across the softly colored landscape.

She paid equal attention to the way the different colored threads intertwine, and to the way the different colored areas relate to each other. And once again, she used leather edging. The Fields collection is based on a wool weave, combined with leather details. Wool is known not only for its softness, but also for its intrinsic resistance to soiling thanks to its natural oils. All Fields products are hand-woven artisanal pieces, making each one unique.

Lena Bergström

Lena Bergström has a deep knowledge of craftsmanship and a greater respect and love for the materials she works with, whether glass, metal or textiles. The Basket rug is entirely handmade, reminiscent of the hand-woven baskets of yesteryear. The special technique of hand tufting extends in different directions to enhance Basket's three-dimensional feel. The new colors are gray-brown, which blends well with gray and brown-beige, and dark green. Several yarns in different shades create the desired sheen. The rug is then carefully hand-cut to form a graphic trompe-l'oeil pattern that pays homage to Swedish craft traditions such as birchbark baskets and backpacks. Sharp angles and soft transitions play a part in a shadow play that is both illusion and reality.
