The Thonet Chair no. 209 was born with the 20th century, in 1900. Particularly harmonious aesthetically, it is also a technical masterpiece, since the backrest and armrests are formed from a single curved cantilever frame made from a single piece of solid beech. Like its ancestor, chair 214, chair 209 is made up of just six elements.

The Swiss architect Le Corbusier loved this chair so much that he used it in many buildings, including the Weißenhof housing estate in Stuttgart in 1927.

The chair is manufactured in the Frankenberg factory.

Gebrüder Thonet

Gebrüder Thonet

Michael Thonet's sons, Franz, Michael junior, August, Josef and Jakob, joined the Gebrüder Thonet company in Vienna in 1853. After Michael Thonet's death in 1871, they ran the company together. They developed new machines and work processes and introduced many new developments and furniture designs. At the turn of the century, the third Thonet generation became active in the company: Karl, Julius, Theodor, Alfred, Victor and Richard also designed a wide range of new furniture and products in the course of their activities.
