Fritz Hansen – Poul Kjærholm, 1961
The PK91 folding stool designed by Poul Kjærholm epitomizes his ongoing adaption of historical furniture categories into his oeuvre and arsenal of expressions. The source of inspiration for the PK91 is an ancient Egyptian folding stool that dates back to approx.1500 BC.
The designer’s method of refining historical furniture types has again been put into play and the result is unmistakably a Kjærholm classic, with the stool’s minimalistic and elegant expression.
The PK91 is part of the permanent collection at the Röhsska Museum in Gothenborg, in Sweden.

Poul Kjærholm
Acclaimed for his distinctive style of furniture design, Poul Kjaerholm was born in Øster Vrå, Denmark in 1929. His pieces are considered to contain a minimalist and articulated form, all in relief with a style that is still famous around the world.
From modest beginnings as a cabinetmaker apprentice at the Gronbech workshop in 1948, Kjaerholm continued to forge his ideology at the Danish School of Arts and Crafts in Copenhagen. Far from shunning the majority of his Scandinavian counterparts, the Dane chose steel as the main material rather than wood. "The potential of steel is not the only thing that interests me, the refraction of light on its surface is an important part of my artistic work. "
Awarded the prestigious Lunning Prize in 1958 and the Trennali Grand Prix in Milan in 1960, Kjaerholm's drawings continue to be featured in the permanent collections of the New York Museum of Modern Art, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. in many other museums across Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Germany.

AURA LEATHER
Aura is a firm and durable leather. It is pigmented and lightly grained with a relatively uniform look. Wrinkles in the swayings, neck wrinkles and other natural marks may occur. The hides have been given a strong surface finish, which makes the leather extremely userfriendly and protected from light and dirt.
DETAILS: European rawhide. Chrome-tanned. Water-based Aniline dye. Water repellent, dirt repellent, stain resistant, smudge-resistant, durable, easy upkeep. A strong, firmer leather that at the same time offers amazing seating comfort.

GRACE LEATHER
Grace (aniline) is an exquisite leather. The leather has a natural nude surface, with a light wax treatment, where all natural markings are visible. This emphasizes the unique character of the leather and adds a rustic charm to the furniture. Grace and other aniline leathers are more susceptible to dirt and grime, compared with pigmented leather. The leather will change with time through use and exposure to light and quickly gains a beautiful patina.
DETAILS: Finest European rawhide. Chrome-tanned followed by a vegetable tanning process to enhance the firmness. Water-based Aniline dye. The ultimate in classic elegance. Boasting a natural patina that appears over time, depending on the light, conditions and usage.

EMBRACE LEATHER
Embrace (aniline) is a fully grain chrome tanned leather. Embrace is characterised by an extraordinary soft and slightly oily surface which comes from a special waxing. Colour variations, neck wrinkles, fat stripes and other natural markings are visible on the leather and contribute to its exclusivity.
DETAILS: Finest European rawhide. Chrome-tanned. Water-based Aniline dye. Extremely supple and soft to the touch.

RUSTIK LEATHER
Rustik (aniline) is an exclusive leather of the highest quality and with a natural surface. The leather is vegetable tanned and chrome free. The marks seen on the leather are not defects, but unique fingerprints that nature has imprinted on the specific piece of leather.

Natural (aniline) is fully grain vegetable tanned leather made from hides of the highest quality. The leather is an elegant and beautiful leather with a natural nude surface where all natural markings are visible. It quickly gains a beautiful patina and darkens over time.
DETAILS: Finest European rawhide. Vegetable-tanned with extracts from the mimosa plant, it transforms over time in three phases: from its original light colour to a very pale pink to a lovely light brown. The original “naked” leather.
