Bertjan Pot is a designer, probably best known for his Random Light (1999). The light started as a material experiment, which is basically the start of each product created by Studio Bertjan Pot. The outcome is usually an interior product showing a fascination for techniques, structures, patterns and colors. Most experiments start quite impulsively by a certain curiosity for how things would function or how something would look. From there Bertjan takes on challenges with manufacturers to explore possibilities and push the boundaries a bit. The reward for each challenge is a new one. Studio Bertjan Pot works with manufacturers such as Arco, Established & Sons, Feld, Gelderland, Montis, Moooi and Richard Lampert.

The Random Light pendant draws its originality mainly from its manufacturing process: a fiberglass thread is soaked in epoxy resin and then arranged randomly on an inflatable beach ball – hence its name, Random. The balloon is then deflated and pulled out from the shade by a round opening, thought to facilitate the change of bulb. The result is a kind of aerial and openwork skin, which gives a unique and unconventional lamp. It is advisable to fix the electric part near the round opening, for aesthetic and equilibrium issues.
The Random Light pendant is available in 3 sizes and 2 colours. It can be hanged alone, but also in clusters, monochrome or two-tone. It will adapt perfectly to both private and public interiors.
