Natural teak – F-Chair Outdoor - Gubi

The F-Chair Outdoor, designed by Marcel Gascoin in 1949 and published by the Danish company Gubi, is an outdoor reinterpretation of the French designer's iconic chair. Part of the Gascoin collection, it combines the functional elegance of the original design with a robust adaptation for outdoor spaces. Made from solid teak with a polyethylene fiber weave, this chair combines durability and refinement, perfect for outdoor use.

Design and features

The F-Chair Outdoor retains the flowing lines of the 1949 version, with curved armrests and subtly angled legs that offer comfort and stability. Its dimensions - 58 cm wide, 57 cm deep and 80 cm high, with a 45 cm seat height - make it ideal for a dining table or outdoor seating area.

The solid, weather-resistant teak frame is complemented by a seat and backrest in extruded polyethylene fiber, imitating natural hyacinth for long-lasting, comfortable seating. Teak can be maintained with oil to retain its honey-gold hue or left to patina in silver-gray, adding an organic, modern touch.

Background and heritage

Marcel Gascoin created the F-Chair in 1949 as part of his work for compact post-war interiors, but the Outdoor version, adapted by Gubi, transposes this vision to an outdoor context. Influenced by his maritime past in Le Havre, Gascoin designed simple, ingenious furniture, a style that earned him a place in the Union des Artistes Modernes with contemporaries such as Jean Prouvé.

The F-Chair Outdoor extends this heritage by combining his modernist design with materials suited to outdoor living, responding to today's needs while remaining true to his philosophy.

The re-edition by Gubi

Gubi has re-edited the F-Chair Outdoor with particular attention to durability, using certified teak and UV- and moisture-resistant polyethylene fiber, thus modernizing Gascoin's outdoor design. Integrated into the Gascoin collection with the C-Chair Outdoor, this chair illustrates Gubi's commitment to reinventing classics for contemporary uses.
