The Gravity table lamp, designed in 2018 by Danish studio Space Copenhagen and published by Gubi, is a sculptural piece that celebrates a delicate balance between strength and lightness. Inspired by the contrast between a massive base and an airy shade, it combines minimalist aesthetics with refined functionality, offering warm ambient light for any interior.
The Gravity table lamp enchants with its sleek silhouette, where the sturdiness of a cylindrical base harmonizes with the softness of a floating textile shade, creating a captivating visual tension. Available in two sizes - small (H 49 cm, shade Ø30 x H20 cm) for a discreet presence, and large (H 65 cm, shade Ø41 x H29 cm) for a more imposing look - it comes with bases in black marble, grey marble, white marble or blackened steel, and shades in natural canvas or white fabric. Each combination confers a unique identity, from organic charm to sophisticated elegance.
Equipped with an E27 LED bulb, it diffuses a soft, modulating light thanks to a dimmer integrated into the base, allowing precise mood adjustment. Compact and versatile, it installs with ease on a side table, desk or console, where its rich textures and timeless design enhance the space with subtle grace.
Space Copenhagen, founded in 2005 by Signe Bindslev Henriksen (b. 1973) and Peter Bundgaard Rützou (b. 1966), graduates of Copenhagen's Royal Academy of Fine Arts, is a multidisciplinary studio renowned for its approach fusing classicism and modernity. Collaborating with brands such as Gubi, Stellar Works and &Tradition, they have created iconic designs such as the Beetle chair (2013) and award-winning interiors including the 11 Howard Hotel in New York and the Geranium and Noma restaurants in Copenhagen. Their philosophy explores the tension between opposites - industrial and organic, sculptural and minimal - to create objects that are narrative and functional.
Launched in 2018, the Gravity table lamp is part of an eponymous collection including floor lamps, all inspired by the balance between mass and lightness. This design reflects Space Copenhagen's exploration of material contrasts and luminous ambiences, rooted in Scandinavian tradition yet transcending eras. Hailed for its timeless aesthetic, it illustrates their talent for creating pieces that transform spaces with their evocative presence.
