The IC Lights C/W1, C/W2, and C/W1 Double models from Flos, are designed to be used as both wall and ceiling lights (the “C/W” stands for “Ceiling/Wall”). Part of the IC collection, imagined by Michael Anastassiades in 2014, they feature a minimalist, poetic design inspired by the balance of a sphere in motion, evoking contact juggling.
IC C/W (Ceiling/Wall) are versatile luminaires that can be wall- or ceiling-mounted, offering installation flexibility as required. They consist of a sphere of mouth-blown opal glass, perched on a slender metal structure, creating an illusion of lightness and suspension. This sculptural aesthetic, combined with soft, diffused light, makes them both functional and decorative.
IC C/W1
• Design : A single sphere (Ø 20 cm) mounted on an L-shaped metal rod. Simple and elegant, it embodies the quintessence of the IC.
• Dimensions :
◦ Diffuser diameter : 20 cm.
◦ Height (to ceiling) : 21,6 cm.
◦ Depth (to wall) : 25,1 cm.
• Light source : 1 x E14, max 60W (Recommended LED: 8-10W, 800-900 lm, 2700K for warm light). Bulb not included.
• Finishes : Brushed brass (clear varnish), polished chrome, matt black.
IC C/W2
• Design : Larger version with a 30 cm-diameter sphere, still on an L-shaped structure. More imposing, it attracts more attention.
• Dimensions :
◦ Diffuser diameter : 30 cm.
◦ Height (to ceiling) : 31,6 cm.
◦ Depth (to wall) : 27,9 cm.
• Light source : 1 x E27, max 205W (recommended LED: 15-18W, 1900-2000 lm, 2700K). Bulb not included.
• Finishes : Identical to IC C/W1 (brass, chrome, black).
IC C/W1 Double
• Design : Two spheres (Ø 20 cm each) mounted on a metal bar, offering visual symmetry and wider illumination. The bar can be installed horizontally or vertically.
• Dimensions :
◦ Diffusers : 2 x Ø 20 cm.
◦ Total length : 42 cm.
◦ Height (to ceiling) : 20 cm.
◦ Depth (to wall) : 24,5 cm.
• Light source : 2 x E14, max 60W per socket (LED recommended: 8-10W per bulb, 800-900 lm, 2700K). Bulbs not included.
• Finishes : Brushed brass, chrome, black.
• Materials :
◦ Mouth-blown opal glass diffuser for soft, glare-free light.
◦ Steel structure with meticulous metal finishes.
• Installation : Designed for direct wall or ceiling mounting, with standard electrical connection (no built-in dimmer, but compatible with external wall-mounted dimmer).
• Protection class : IP20 (indoor use only).
• Light : Diffused and even, ideal for a warm atmosphere. Light direction depends on orientation (up or down on wall, down on ceiling).
• Style : Minimalist with Art Deco and Bauhaus influences, these fixtures combine geometric simplicity with timeless elegance. The opaline glass sphere contrasts with the angular rigor of the metal structure.
• Applications :
◦ Wall-mounted: Perfect for living rooms (solo or in pairs), bedrooms (above beds) or hallways (accent lighting).
◦ Ceiling-mounted: Ideal for an entrance hall, kitchen, or small room where a discreet but sophisticated ceiling light is required.
• Visual effect :
◦ C/W1 : Subtle and refined, for intimate spaces.
◦ C/W2 : Bolder, suitable for larger rooms.
◦ C/W1 Double : Symmetrical and sculptural, excellent for balanced lighting or designer settings.
Michael Anastassiades designed the IC collection inspired by a contact juggling video, in which spheres appeared to float in balance. This idea is reflected in the way the sphere rests on the stem, creating a visual tension between stability and fragility. The name “IC” is a playful nod to the ethnic identification codes of the British police, reflecting the personal identity of the London-based Cypriot designer.
The IC C/W1, C/W2, and C/W1 Double wall/ceiling lamps from Flos are versatile pieces that marry poetry and functionality. Whether you're looking for discreet lighting (C/W1), assertive presence (C/W2), or sophisticated symmetry (C/W1 Double), they adapt to a variety of spaces and uses.
