Hallingdal fabric

Kvadrat's Hallingdal fabric is an iconic textile, often considered the archetypal wool upholstery fabric. Created in 1965 by renowned Danish designer Nanna Ditzel, it marked Kvadrat's debut and remains one of its bestsellers thanks to its exceptional durability and timeless aesthetic.

Made from 70% wool and 30% viscose, Hallingdal benefits from the complementary qualities of these two materials. Wool offers remarkable strength and suppleness, while viscose adds a touch of brilliance and depth to the colors. The yarns are dyed before weaving, accentuating the richness of texture and giving the fabric a vibrant, nuanced appearance.

Originally conceived as a robust upholstery fabric, Hallingdal has evolved over time. The current version, called Hallingdal 65, offers a modernized palette of 58 colors, ranging from neutral hues to bright, primary colors. This diversity, combined with its solidity (tested to withstand 100,000 Martindale cycles), makes it an ideal choice for upholstering furniture such as sofas, armchairs, chairs or cushions, in both private and public interiors (airports, trains, hospitals, etc.).

In terms of maintenance, it requires regular cleaning to preserve its appearance and flame-retardant properties: frequent vacuuming is recommended, and dry-cleaning is also possible. Its enduring success, with over 4 million meters sold since its creation, bears witness to its status as a Scandinavian design classic, combining functionality, comfort and elegance.
