The MG501 is distinguished by its foldable structure and clean lines. Its solid wood frame, generally in oak (available in soapy, oiled or lacquered finishes), supports a seat and backrest made of cotton straps or braided paper cord, depending on the version. This design gives it a light and airy look.
Handcrafted in Denmark, it uses high-quality oak, sometimes FSC-certified, and sustainable materials such as cotton or paper cord, which is soft to the touch and hard-wearing. An outdoor version is also available, with a teak frame and synthetic braiding suitable for outdoor use.
Its ability to be easily folded makes it a versatile piece of furniture. It can be stored against a wall or hung up (with an optional hook), making it perfect for small spaces or as an extra seat. Its ability to be easily folded makes it a versatile piece of furniture. Morten Gøttler, a self-taught designer born in 1944, is recognised for his sensitivity to wood and his minimalist approach. With the MG501, he reinvents the traditional folding chair, breathing contemporary elegance into it. Carl Hansen & Søn, true to its heritage of over 100 years, here perpetuates its commitment to quality craftsmanship and collaboration with visionary designers.
The Cuba MG501 is as much a functional object as it is a design piece. It fits just as well in a modern living room, bedroom or terrace (outdoor version). Since its launch, it has won over design enthusiasts for its practicality and timeless aesthetics, becoming a discreet but striking classic of the Carl Hansen & Søn collection.
