Design and features

The Multi-Lite suspension features a spherical shade made up of two movable metal shells, surrounding a central light source. These shells can rotate independently, offering rare flexibility: light can be directed upwards for a soft ambience, downwards for focused illumination, or in an intermediate combination for a unique effect. This modularity reflects Weisdorf's approach to creating adaptable, interactive designs.

The luminaire is suspended by a thin cable, often matched with a discreet rosette, and comes in two sizes: a larger version (diameter 36 cm) and a smaller one (diameter 25.5 cm), both with a shade height of around 32 cm for the larger and 20 cm for the smaller. Gubi offers a wide range of elegant finishes. The materials - brass or chrome - accentuate its retro-chic look, with reflections that catch the light and enrich its visual impact.

Its geometric design, both simple and sophisticated, is inspired by the trends of the 1970s, marked by spherical shapes and a fascination with shiny metals. Yet its versatility makes it timeless, capable of blending into both modern and classic interiors.

Danish architect and designer Louis Weisdorf (1932-2021) conceived the Multi-Lite after collaborating with figures such as Poul Henningsen. Originally launched for Lyngby Porcelæn, this suspension reflects his taste for modular systems and innovative lighting, rooted in Danish tradition.
