The Shade pouf, designed by Begüm Cana Özgür and Marcos Catalán for Nanimarquina, is a piece that extends the aesthetic and philosophy of the Shade rug collection, while adding a three-dimensional dimension. This collaboration between Turkish designer Begüm Cana Özgür and Spanish architect and designer Marcos Catalán illustrates a successful fusion of their distinct creative approaches, combining artisanal sensibility with contemporary rigor.

Design and feature

The Shade collection of rugs and poufs is inspired by magical moments in nature when colors blend and speak for themselves. The collection is hand-woven. The weaving generates an incredible, balanced diffusion of colors, releasing a sense of tranquility and well-being balanced by the penetrating vibration of the colors.

The poufs echo the subtle color transitions of the carpets - two gradients converge in each pouf, one vertical and one horizontal, in the same plane, harmoniously using six transitional shades. Available in four variations: turquoise to eggplant, russet to Klein blue, raspberry to forest green and garnet-gray to brown.

Born in 1989, Turkish designer Begüm Cana Özgür earned her master's degree at the Cranbrook Academy of Art, USA. In 2014, she opened her Istanbul-based studio, where the cultural richness of the earth has been the main motif of her work, developing an interest in ancient craft practices.

Begüm Cana Özgür's work integrates design, art and craft. From the initial ideation, her design process is carried out manually. She plays with common materials and existing techniques, understanding their potential to develop new contemporary expressions. The experimental process results in the development and adaptation of skills, suggesting new ways of doing things.

Marcos Catalán graduated in design from the Elisava School (Barcelona) in 1997, and went on to collaborate with various architectural firms before founding “Marcos Catalán Studio” in 2006, developing projects in architecture, interior design and product design.

His studio practices a rigorous and rational working method, with the aim of improving the quality and experience of the places in which it works.
