The Taika Blue saucer, 16 cm in diameter, designed by Klaus Haapaniemi for Iittala, is the perfect complement to the cup in the Taika collection. It embodies the same magical, artistic spirit that characterizes this iconic series.
This saucer features a deep blue background, typical of the blue variant of the Taika collection, on which Klaus Haapaniemi's signature motifs unfold. These, inspired by Finnish folklore with Japanese influences, feature fantastical creatures, stylized animals and natural elements in a richly detailed narrative style. The colors of the illustrations - often shades of red, white and black - contrast harmoniously with the blue, offering an aesthetic that is both vibrant and soothing. At 16 cm in diameter, it's slightly wider than conventional saucers (usually around 15 cm), giving it an elegant presence on the table and making it suitable for 0.3L cups or even other uses, such as a small plate for sweets. The sober, functional design of the shape is the work of Heikki Orvola, who collaborated with Haapaniemi to balance the exuberance of the motifs with Iittala's distinctive Nordic simplicity.
Made from high-quality porcelain, the Taika Blue saucer shares the robust, versatile properties of the other pieces in the collection. It is dishwasher, microwave, oven and freezer safe, making it as practical as it is attractive. Its smooth, durable surface is designed for everyday use, while retaining its lustre and detail over time.
With its 16 cm diameter, the Taika Bleue saucer is ideal to accompany the cups in the same collection, but it can also be used on its own, as a small plate for cookies, dessert or a snack. It fits perfectly with a Taika service (in blue, black, white or red) or with more sober Iittala pieces, such as Teema. It's an object that combines the elegance of Scandinavian design with a touch of whimsy, perfect for lovers of fine tableware or as a refined gift.
