Shade Outdoor rugs, designed by Begüm Cana Özgür for Nanimarquina, are an extension of the famous Shade collection, originally conceived for indoor use, but adapted here for outdoor use. These rugs embody a fusion between the poetic aesthetics of nature and contemporary technicality, offering an elegant and durable solution for outdoor spaces.
Shade Outdoor rugs take up the central concept of the Shade collection: a harmonious diffusion of colors inspired by magical moments in nature when colors blend and speak for themselves. Each rug features two color gradients - one vertical and one horizontal - that converge on the same plane, using six transitional shades. This technique creates a complex, flowing gradient effect, evoking the subtle variations of the sky or a natural landscape.
Handcrafted using the dhurrie technique (a traditional flat weave), these rugs are made from 100% recycled PET, a fiber obtained from reclaimed plastic bottles. This choice of material ensures exceptional resistance to water, weather and UV, while retaining a soft texture and pleasant feel.
The color palette includes four vibrant options from the original collection: turquoise to eggplant, russet to Klein blue, raspberry to forest green, and garnet gray to brown. These rich, nuanced hues allow the rugs to blend into a variety of outdoor environments while adding a touch of warmth and sophistication.
Born in 1989, Turkish designer Begüm Cana Özgür received her master's degree from the Cranbrook Academy of Art, USA. In 2014, she opened her studio, based in Istanbul, where the cultural richness of the earth has been the main motif of her work, developing an interest in ancient craft practices.
Begüm Cana Özgür's work integrates design, art and craft. From the initial ideation, her design process is carried out manually. She plays with common materials and existing techniques, understanding their potential to develop new contemporary expressions. The experimental process results in the development and adaptation of skills, suggesting new ways of doing things.
