The Taika Sato collection is an enchanting extension of Iittala's acclaimed Taika line, launched in 2024. Conceived by Finnish designer Klaus Haapaniemi, it perpetuates the magical, storytelling spirit that has made the original series such a success since 2007. “Taika Sato”, which means ‘magical harvest’ in Finnish, celebrates the beauty of fruit and vegetables through rich, detailed motifs inspired by still-life art revisited in Haapaniemi's unique style.
Klaus Haapaniemi, renowned for his dreamlike approach, draws on his love of Finnish folklore, nature and decorative traditions, which he modernizes with a personal touch. In Taika Sato, he uses elements of the harvest - fruits and vegetables - in vibrant compositions that invite the imagination. This collection also reflects his taste for varied cultural references, from traditional fairy tales to the aesthetics of Eastern European craft animations. Each piece becomes a canvas on which a captivating visual story unfolds.
Taika Sato combines Haapaniemi's abundant illustrations with the functional forms created by Heikki Orvola, designer of the clean lines of Iittala's Aika series. However, some decorative elements, such as vases and jars, bear Haapaniemi's direct design signature. The patterns, multicolored with shades of pink, blue, green and yellow, stand out against a white porcelain background, offering visual diversity where no two pieces are identical, yet remain consistent throughout. The collection includes tableware (plates, bowls, cups, mugs) as well as decorative objects (vases, jars), all made from durable, dishwasher- and microwave-safe porcelain (except for some hand-washable decorative objects).
Taika Sato continues the legacy of the Taika collection, which has been winning over design enthusiasts for twenty years. It testifies to the creative evolution of Haapaniemi, whose influence extends beyond tableware to textiles and even opera (with Cunning Little Vixen in 2015, at the origin of the Tanssi collection). This series also illustrates Iittala's know-how, rooted in Nordic design since 1881, where functionality and aesthetics meet in harmony.
