BELLADONNA outdoor sofa

design Franco Albini & Franca Helg

The classical Belladonna 2-seater sofa was created by the two Italian designers Franco Albini and Franca Helg in 1951. Originally made of rattan, Sika Design has devised a version suitable for outdoor use. It is made of alu-rattan, which consists of a strong aluminum frame woven with Artfibre. The material is maintenance free and can withstand all weather conditions.

This classic has a refined and distinguished style that comes in part from its elegant and feminine curves. This is perhaps what inspired its name: bella donna means beautiful woman in Italian. With its openwork structure, it lets the light through, which gives it visual lightness. Its seat cushion upholstered with fabric ensures a very good comfort

Franco Albini & Franca Helg

Franco Albini (1905-1977) was an Italian architect and designer, famous for his ability to merge modern minimalistic furniture design with traditional Italian craftmanship. Through his work he obtained three Compasso D’Oro awards, the most prestigious Italian design prize.

From 1951 Franco Albini becomes business partners with Franca Helg (1920-1989), and from this point Franca plays a crucial role in numerous of Franco Albini’s designs. Franco and Franca were active both in the field of furniture, architectural planning and in industrial design. Together they designed many creations with the new forms of modernism.
